March 22, 2018 - Daily Update

Good Morning. James City County Building Safety & Permits has 53 inspections for Thursday, March 22, 2018. Dave Malarkey is out of the office today.

All residential building permit applications must include all items listed on the Building Plan Minimum Documentation Checklist, this checklist can be found at

Beginning April 2, 2018, residential building permit applications will not be accepted if all items are not include in the original submittal.

Please note the following code section regarding wood in contact with the ground or embedded in concrete.

R317.1.2 All wood in contact with the ground, embedded in concrete in direct contact with the ground or embedded in concrete exposed to the weather that supports permanent structures intended for human occupancy shall be approved pressure-preservative-treated wood suitable for ground contact use…...

As a reminder, ALL dwelling unit deck footings must be inspected and may be requested separately or at time of house footings if ready.

The front office staff will only accept inspection requests for property owners who have not received a PIN to access the system.

All single-family dwellings require lot stabilization and grading in accordance with the approved site plan and Permit Agreement in Lieu of an Erosion and Sediment Control. Environmental Resource Protection Inspectors will inspect the lots for these requirements when requested and will automatically be scheduled at the time of Building Final inspection if not previously requested.
