Fall 2017/Winter 2018 Activity Brochure Released

Parks & Recreation invites you to a season of fun and healthy programs, events and activities for all ages and interests! This edition of Destination Recreation highlights all of the department’s offerings through February 2018. The brochure can be downloaded online or picked up at the James City County Recreation Center, the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, the Freedom Park Interpretive Center, the Satellite Services Office, County park offices, public County government offices and at the James City County and Williamsburg libraries! 

New program offerings include art classes for homeschoolers and paint nights for all ages; new special interest classes feature music, movement and more for preschoolers and for seniors; therapeutic recreation is offering a winter break camp and sensory friendly movie nights; sports opportunities include a skateboarding clinic, volleyball and flag football. The Abram Frink Jr. Community Center in Grove has added a variety of new and free programs including indoor movie nights and services such as access to public computers and Go Grove, a new bus shuttle to many department special events.

James Riverfest, Free! A festival to highlight environmental education. Sept. 30*, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Jamestown Beach Event Park (JBEP), 2205 Jamestown Road. 
Capital Color Ride, New! Come "color" your way along the Virginia Capital Trail. Oct. 7*, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park (CRP), 1350 John Tyler Highway.
Williamsburg Fall Classic Pickleball Tournament. Join in this fun and fast-paced game open to ages 18+ of all skill levels. Oct. 14*, 8:30 a.m. at Jamestown High School, 3751 John Tyler Highway. 
Boo Bash at the Beach. Enjoy a day at the 'beach" with a Halloween twistOct. 21*, 1-4 p.m. at JBEP.
Skate Jam After Hours. A special night of skateboarding competition. Oct. 28*, 5 p.m. at the Skate Park, located next to the James City County Recreation Center (JCCRC), 5301 Longhill Road.
Live Well Expo, Free! For ages 55+ and caregivers; free preventive health screenings plus local wellness, service and nutrition resources. Nov. 3, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the JCCRC.
Santa Calling, Free! Parks & Recreation is providing a direct line to the North Pole! Dec. 5, 5:45-8 p.m.
Breakfast with Santa. Enjoy a breakfast buffet and morning of holiday cheer with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Dec. 9, 9-11 a.m. at the JCCRC.
Fitness Open House, Free! Get tips and attend mini classes and demonstrations for a healthy start to 2018. Jan. 20, 9-11 a.m. at the JCCRC.
Neighborhood Winter Carnival, Free! Warm up winter at this indoor carnival. Jan. 27, 2-5 p.m. at Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, 8901 Pocahontas Trail. 
Black Settlement Presentation, Free! Come learn from a descendent of those who lived on the Free Black Settlement in Freedom Park. Feb. 10, 3-4 p.m. at Freedom Park, 5537 Centerville Road.
Destination Recreation Expo, Free! Your one-stop shop for everything Parks & Recreation and its partners have to offer! Feb. 24, 9 a.m.-noon at the JCCRC. 
Fido Fest. Get to the park with your furry friend. March 17*, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. at JBEP.
