Police Receive Two Law Enforcement Challenge Awards

presentation of law enforcement challenge awards

James City County Police Department was recognized on Tuesday at the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) 92nd Annual Training Conference in Virginia Beach. The Department received the 2017 Law Enforcement Challenge First Place Award (for a municipality with 61-125 officers) and the 2017 Law Enforcement Occupancy Protection Award.

The Law Enforcement Challenge program is a traffic safety recognition program that recognizes agencies that excel in keeping their roadways safe. The program is coordinated by the VACAP and Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Office. The awards are based on entries prepared by the participating agencies that highlight their traffic safety education and enforcement activities in occupant protection, impaired driving and speed. Evaluators award points to the agencies in the six areas that comprise a comprehensive traffic safety program: problem identification, policies, planning, public information and education, officer training and enforcement. Additionally, an evaluation of the outcomes of the efforts are considered.

James City County Police Department takes pride in its numerous efforts to promote traffic safety, and these awards are reflective of that.
