Aquatics


Learn to Swim, Free Swim Evaluations
There are individual registration periods before each swim lesson session. Registration for February classes is open Jan. 29-Feb. 7. Registration is accepted at the James City County Recreation Center and online at Aquatics. Having trouble deciding which swim level is appropriate for your child? Our certified Water Safety Instructor will be available 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and Wednesday, Jan. 31 to provide free swim evaluations. Elementary Homeschool Art Class (ages 5-10) New!

Kid’s Winter Cupcake Decorating (ages 6-12) New!

Get introduced to basic cake decorating skills using buttercream icing. Decorate cupcakes in Winter Wonderland style – from snowflakes to snowmen and more – we’ll even use edible glitter and sprinkles. Please note any food allergies with registration. Before- and After-School Programs & 2018 Summer Camp


Registration begins Friday, Feb. 2, for James City County and Williamsburg residents only. Nonresidents may apply starting Friday, Feb. 9. Parents, please plan ahead! One registration packet may be used for both Summer Camp 2018 and the Before- and After-School 2018-19 programs. Registrations accepted on a first-come, first-served basis according to postmark date and space availability. Registration forms and program information will be available at REC Connect and at the Recreation Centers, Freedom Park Interpretive Center and Satellite Services Office in Toano starting Monday, Jan. 29.

Get a great 60 minutes of exercise using your own body weight, bands and balls as well as our outdoor walking trail! Class ends at the My Place Playground for your tots to play. What could be more basic than walking and running? Local sports chiropractor Dr. Daniel Shaye of Performance Chiropractic will be performing FREE gait analysis. R.A.D. Basic Physical Defense (ages 14+) Free!

The R.A.D. system (Rape Aggression Defense) is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. This comprehensive, 12-hour course (6 days, 2 hours/day) for women begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance then progresses on to the basics of hands-on defense training. Meditation Workshop (ages 16+)

Yoga Etiquette & Safe Practice Workshop (ages 12+) Free!

New to Yoga, but anxious about even entering the studio? Do you travel and like to try out different studios? Just confused about the “In’s & Out’s” of the Yoga world, have questions, but hesitant to ask? In this 75-minute workshop, we’ll cover Asana Yoga safety which will be useful when taking a new class, or when having a new/substitute instructor. Anatomical alignment and basic modifications for common poses will be discussed. This four-week workshop is designed to establish a sustainable practice and is suitable for those who have never practiced before or had a daily home practice. Freedom Park Interpretive Center
This workshop will provide instruction on early winter tree care. James City County/Williamsburg Master Gardeners will demonstrate the proper use of pruning tools and discuss the basics of pruning trees and shrubs. A $5 donation to help the Williamsburg Botanical Garden grow is appreciated.
