Your Strategy - The First-Time Homebuyer Program
Attend a free VHDA home ownership course
Our program offers this class to help you learn the essentials of purchasing a home. Additionally, you may become pre-approved for VHDA loan programs – a process we will guide you through.
Find a VHDA-approved lender
A VHDA lender can tell you the maximum home price that you can afford.
Complete the application for the First-Time Homebuyer Program
When you submit your application to OHCD, we will be able to inform you of available homes that match your criteria and work with you from start to finish, discussing all questions you may have about the entire process.
Finalizing it all
This is the time your lender will work with you to authorize your loan. At this time, you should also be looking into homeowner's insurance as well as a closing agent. Schedule utilities to be connected, sign the final papers and try out the keys.
