Who we are
The goal of the First-time Homebuyer Program is to provide safe, decent, affordable housing to participants. The program provides downpayment and closing cost assistance and low-interest rate financing for moderate-income first-time homebuyers who cannot qualify for other available financing.
Eligibility for assistance is based on household size and income and if the funding is available. At this time, Community Homeownership Revitalization funds (CHRP) and HOME funds are available. The CHRP program sets aside funds for permanent financing (the funds have an interest rate of 1/2 percent below VHDA's prevailing rate at the time the lender locks in the loan). Down-payment assistance is available through the HOME funds program. Please visit the Hampton Roads Loan Fund Partnership website for more information on the HOME program. Both of these programs have eligiblity requirements. A first-time homebuyer is one that has not owned a home in the last three years. The minimum income to qualify to purchase one of these homes is approximately $38,000.
Your credit score should be at least 620 and your credit report should not show unpaid collections or past due accounts. You will also be required to bring $3,000 to the closing table.
