Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Ashe
While pursuing his degree in Fire Protection and Safety Technology at Oklahoma State University, Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Ashe worked part-time with the James City County Fire Department and was also a volunteer with Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue in Gloucester County. Ryan graduated Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Fire Protection in 2004.
The part-time position that Ryan enjoyed with James City County Fire Department transitioned into a full-time position and in 2004 Ryan became a career Fire Fighter Medic with James City County Fire Department.
In 2009, Ryan was promoted to Fire Rescue Captain and served at Station 2 until being selected as the Departments training officer. In July 2013, Ryan was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief and is second-in-command to Fire Chief Tal Luton.
Ryan remains active with the technical rescue team and is a rescue specialist with Virginia Taskforce 2 USAR team in Virginia Beach.
Ashe completed the last class of the U.S. Fire Administration’s Executive Fire Officer Program in April 2013 and is completing his final applied research project.
