What do you think?
The update to the Comprehensive Plan, like previous updates, has a large public input effort built into it to influence the planning and policy development process. The Comprehensive Plan is for our community and your comments have an effect on what actions the County undertakes and the goals that are set for the next 10 to 20 years.
There are many opportunities over the course of the process to contribute to the development of the plan and make sure your voice is heard. Some features to garner this input include options to contribute via the internet, email, or phone and public meetings.
Answer the call
In March 2014, the Virginia Tech Center for Survey Research randomly selected and called 600 residents. This is a scientific survey of County residents in an effort to understand where you think the County should be heading. This survey is similar to the survey done in advance of the 2009 and 2003 Comprehensive Plans and allows us to see how the opinions of you, our citizens, have changed over the years. Read more on those survey results please go here.
Request a spot for your organization at a Community Participation Team (CPT) Forum
The CPT will scheduled forums in late spring to gather input from citizen organizations. Each organization was given 15 minutes to present their thoughts and ideas for the County’s Comprehensive Plan update.

Attend a Public Meeting
Public outreach meetings are town meetings conducted in various venues throughout the County. During these meetings staff will look to hear your feedback on community needs and important issues with a keen interest in those Board-identified areas of focus: land use, transportation and economic development.
The JCC Planning Division and CPT invite everyone who lives, works and plays in JCC to attend a Comprehensive Plan Community Workshop. Each workshop will focus on the topics of economic development, transportation and land use in the County as a whole but will spotlight one of three geographic regions. Participate in the meeting that is in your neighborhood.
Missed the Workshops?
Watch our Virtual Community Workshop. Provide your input in the questionnaire by June 30,2014 for inclusion in the CPT's public input summary. All input, regardless of when it's received, will be forwarded to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.
