Work on the Comprehensive Plan began with a scientific survey of County residents in an effort to understand where you think the County should be heading. The results serve as a key component for the Comprehensive Plan update and help in the development of goals, strategies and actions.
In April 2014, the Virginia Tech Center for Survey Research conducted a telephone survey of 606 residents of James City County. This survey is similar to the survey done in advance of the 2009 and 2003 Comprehensive Plans and allows us to see how the opinions of you, our citizens, have changed over the years.
Results of the survey are now available and can be accessed (see below). Dr. Susan Willis of the VTCSR will be making a presentation on the results to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors at their joint work session on May 27, 2014. A link to the presentation will be posted when it is available.
Above: Word cloud representing the various themes expressed by survey respondents when asked what they like best about living in the County. As depicted in the figure, many respondents said that they liked that the County was quiet, safe, rural, convenient (with regard to distance to more urban localities for example), and has a sense of history.
