Irene debris update – The second and final collection begins Tuesday, Oct. 4 on all County public streets and private roads in gated communities. In order to ensure that all debris is collected, have all remaining storm-related debris at the edge of the property line by the end of the day, Monday, Oct. 3. Additional guidelines are available online.
The first pass for debris collection is complete. In total, more than 130,000 cubic yards of vegetative and storm-related construction materials were picked up in the five districts.

Tour the new Law Enforcement Center – The Police Department is hosting an Open House on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the new Law Enforcement Center, 4600 Opportunity Way.
This is a great opportunity to take a tour, get a new or updated Child ID and learn more about the Bike Registration program and other crime prevention programs. Representatives from the Marine Patrol, Bike Patrol, SWAT and Crime Prevention programs will be on hand to answer questions. Light refreshments will be served. See you there!
October 17 is the deadline to register! – Election Day may be over a month away, but if you need to register, change your address or request an absentee ballot, the deadlines are right around the corner.

County receives Achievement Award – The County received a 2011 Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) Achievement Award for www.williamsburgcc.com/williamsburgworks.cfm, a one-stop portal to information and resources of interest to prospective employees with emphasis on job and relocation opportunities.
The website is a collaboration that includes the County, the City of Williamsburg, and York County as well as Busch Gardens & Water Country, USA; College of William and Mary; Colonial Williamsburg Foundation; Jamestown Yorktown Foundation; Kingsmill Resort Spa; and Sentara Hospital. The Greater Williamsburg Chamber Tourism Alliance hosts the site.
Sing the night away – On Saturday, Oct. 8, from 7-9 p.m., head out to Chickahominy Riverfront Park for Karaoke in the Park with D.J. Billy Mitchell. Your microphone is waiting at the large shelter near the volleyball courts. It’s free and open to all ages, children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
