Thinking rural – James City County and the Virginia Cooperative Extension invite you to help define what "rural"; means; identify community preferences for rural lands uses; and give feedback on County rural lands policies, programs and procedures. Come to one of the Thinking Rural – Discussion Sessions to provide input:
What about the cat? – You're taking the steps needed to prepare your home and family for a hurricane, but what about your pets?
National Night Out – On Aug. 6, County neighborhoods are invited to join forces with over 15,000 communities nationwide for the 30th Annual National Night Out.
During the evening, residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on porch lights and spend the evening outdoors with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods are already making plans for block parties, cookouts and visits from officers and McGruff the Crime Dog. To arrange for James City County Police Officers to attend your community event, call 757-603-6023, send an email or register online by July 26.
Priority registration deadline Aug. 2 – REC Connect, the County's Before and After School Programs, are available to youth ages 5-14 (grades K-8) who are enrolled in Williamsburg/James City County schools (WJCC). Before and After School programs are held at all WJCC elementary schools and middle schools combine for an After School program at Berkeley. Transportation for Toano and Hornsby students is provided to Berkeley.
All REC Connect registration forms, program information and fees are available online.
Before you hook up that sprinkler – Annual outdoor water use regulations for James City Service Authority (JCSA) customers are in effect through Sept. 30.
Under the Ordinances, customers may use water outdoors for any purpose, at any time, on any day, as long as it is with a container or hose with an automatic shutoff nozzle. Any other method of outdoor water use must follow the Outdoor Water Use Schedule, which is based on street address. For more information, visit the website or call 757-259-4152 or 757-253-6800.
