Goodbye, Andrea – A week into the 2013 hurricane season, Tropical Storm Andrea drenched the County. While we only had rain with minimal winds, we were under a tornado watch for most of the day. Do you know the difference between a watch and a warning?
A WATCH means tornadoes are possible. A WARNING means a tornado has been sighted and could be headed your way. If a tornado WARNING is issued for our area, immediately take cover inside a basement or first-floor room in the center of a sturdy building. For more tornado safety information, go to ReadyVirginia.gov.
What does rural look like? – Is it a field, a tractor or maybe a farmer's market? It can mean different things to different people and we are hosting a photo drive to find out what it means to you. Visit the website for complete rules and submission guidelines. Photos are due July 12.
Look for an educational panel about agriculture, forestry and other rural-related topics in June and stay tuned for more information about how we will use the photos in July to help define what rural means to the County.
Citizen services on the web – The County has recently re-launched the citizen services web page. The updated page highlights County services and programs for citizens and neighborhoods. It features an electronic version of the updated Citizens' Guide to Services, neighborhood resources, online services and more.
The Citizen Services page complements the County's homepage, which features the latest County news. It is part of our ongoing civic engagement initiative. For more information, contact Latara Branch, Civic Engagement Coordinator at 757-259-4986 or by email.
