In addition to the playground, a new park office was constructed with improved restroom facilities, a vending area and a small meeting room designed for programming and community use. Both picnic shelters were painted and a new roof installed.
Drool in the Pool – After a long summer, dogs will finally have the Chickahominy Riverfront Park pool to themselves on Sept. 14 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Admission is $10 per dog or free if you show completed Tails on the Trail PAWS-port.
Join us for a great day of munchies, vendors and wet dogs. Music will be provided by Philip Newbury from WMBG Radio. To participate, all dogs must be properly registered and vaccinated. The event is offered in partnership with Heritage Humane Society and all proceeds will benefit the Society. In case of inclement weather, call 757-259-3232.
Hear it on the radio – When the power goes out and phone lines are down, getting information from the outside world can be a challenge. Make sure you have a portable radio and plenty of batteries so you can get County information on Tide FM 92.3, Bach FM 107.9 and WMBG AM 740.
You may also want to have a NOAA Weather Radio to receive continuous weather information directly from the nearest National Weather Service office. The radios broadcast official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. NOAA radios are available at local retailers and online. Good news for first-time homebuyers – The Virginia Housing Development Authority has awarded the Office of Housing and Community Development an allocation of $1,080,000 of low-interest rate financing. The funds will assist six qualified first-time homebuyers with purchasing new homes in the Ironbound Subdivision.
Ironbound Subdivision homebuyers may also be eligible for down payment and closing cost assistance funds through the County's First-time Homebuyers Program.
Interested first-time homebuyers with household incomes from approximately $33,000 to $100,800 should call 757-259 5340 or visit the website.
Calling all entrepreneurs – The Triangle Entrepreneur Exchange Workshop Series begins Sept. 18 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Legacy Hall, 4301 New Town Ave.
The first workshop features Zee Worstell of AccelerateHER. Worstell will discuss pricing business services and maximizing earning potential. The workshop is intended for both established entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs in the making. The workshop is free, but registration is required.
The workshop series is hosted by the County and Thomas Nelson Community College Workforce Development.
