Preparing for winter weather – In the last issue of e-FYI we covered the special needs list for emergency planning for the elderly or disabled. Now we'll emphasize the importance of avoiding overexertion.
Cold weather puts an extra strain on the heart. If you have heart disease or high blood pressure, follow your doctor's advice about shoveling snow or doing other hard work in the cold. Remember to dress warmly and work slowly. Your body is already working hard just to stay warm, so don't overdo it.
