Board organizes for 2013 – The JCC Board of Supervisors met on Jan. 2 for their annual organizational meeting. The Board chose to not select a new Chairman and Vice-Chairman until the Powhatan representative is named by the 9th Judicial Court of Virginia. John McGlennon will continue to serve as the Chairman and Mary Jones will continue to serve as Vice-Chairman.
The Board also approved its meeting calendar for 2013 which is available online.
Learn more about the JCCPD – The next Citizens Police Academy begins Feb. 6. Topics covered in the free 14-session program include polygraphs, traffic stops, DUI enforcement, firearms, crime scene investigations and officer survival. The Academy is open to adults living or working in the County. Most classes are held on Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center.
Anyone interested must complete an application and undergo a criminal background check before being admitted to the program. For more information, email or call 757-253-1800.
Preparing for winter weather – In the last issue of
e-FYI we reviewed the items you should have on hand for winter weather. Now we'll cover emergency planning for the elderly or disabled.
James City County maintains a special needs list of County citizens who may need assistance at the time of an emergency due to age or medical conditions. Elderly or disabled County residents should call 757-259-3202 now for assistance to develop personal winter preparedness plans. This is a voluntary service and all personal information remains confidential.
Need help with your resolutions? – The County offers fitness classes in Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Kettlebells, Water Cardio and more. All of our instructors are certified by nationally recognized organizations such as: AFAA, ACE, Yoga Alliance and STOTT Pilates.
The County also offers body composition analysis, fitness assessments and personal training. For more information, call 757-259-4173.
A quick reminder – Dog tags must be on County dogs by Jan. 31. A valid rabies certificate is required. Tags can be purchased at the Treasurer's Office or Satellite Services. If the rabies certificate is on file with the Treasurer's Office, ePayment may be used.
