Structure Fire - 1820 Jamestown Road - 01/08/02

An early morning structure fire at Cookes Christmas Warehouse located at 1820 Jamestown Road resulted in major damage to the 5900 square foot building. A James City County Police Officer on regular patrol reported the fire to Fire/Police emergency dispatchers at 4:34 a.m.this morning. The County fire department dispatched 3 Engine Companies, 1 Ladder Company, and 2 Medical Ambulance Companies to the working fire.
Cookes Christmas Warehouse is located in a building formerly housing College and University Computers. The building is located next to Cookes Greenhouse. The location is between the City of Williamsburg and the Jamestown Ferry on Jamestown Road. It is near the Jamestown 1607 Townhouse community. The fire took over an hour and a half to bring under control. One Firefighter received minor injuries due to an electrical shock received while fighting the fire. The Firefighter was transported to Williamsburg Community Hospital, and is expected to be released from the emergency room later this morning.
At the time of this press release, units are still on the scene extinguishing hot spots and completing general overhaul. Overhaul is the process of searching out small hidden fires that might still be smoldering.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by James City County Fire Marshals. No additional information is available at the time.
