Three-Year Old Drowns at Apartment Pool - 05/26/02

Units from the James City County Fire Department responded to a report of a drowning at the Rolling Meadows Apartments on Sunday, May 26th at 5:35 P.M. Rolling Meadows is located in the central portion of James City County near Eastern State Hospital. First arriving units reported that the pool lifeguard and a citizen were performing CPR on the young girl. It was reported to the paramedic that the child had been found on the bottom of the pool. It is not known how long the child had been under water. The child had no pulse, was not breathing, and appeared to have consumed a substantial amount of water. Every available medical therapy was attempted on the scene by paramedics whom were in direct contact with Emergency Room Physicians at Williamsburg Community Hospital. The child did not respond to treatment, and was transported to Williamsburg Community Hospital where she died shortly after arriving at 6:08 P.M. The young girl would have been 3 years old this July. James City County Police were on the scene conducting their investigation into the drowning when the last Fire Department unit left the scene.
