WAT To Run Buses While Bridge Remains Closed

Beginning June 30, Williamsburg Area Transport (WAT) will operate six trips daily Monday through Friday from the James City County side of the Judith Dresser Memorial Bridge on Route 5 to the Williamsburg Transportation Center, 468 N. Boundary Street. 


A bus will leave from the Route 5 bridge at 6:25 a.m., 7:25 a.m., and 8:25 a.m. daily and arrive at the Transportation Center at 6:50 a.m., 7:50 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. respectively. The bus will depart the Transportation Center at 5:10 p.m., 6:10 p.m., and 7:10 p.m. and arrive at the Route 5 bridge at 5:35 p.m., 6:35 p.m. and 7:35 p.m. respectively. The bus will travel non-stop from the Route 5 bridge to the Transportation Center to assist people commuting to work while the bridge is closed.


This service is a partnership between Charles City County, the Virginia Department of Transportation, and WAT. Charles City County will pay the full cost of the route, which will be open to the public. There will be no fare for persons riding this route, and transfers will be free.


The service will operate through July 14. The bridge is expected to reopen on July 15.
