James City County to hold open house for prospective foster and adoptive parents

Date: October 26, 2004

Contact: Jessica Vermont, JCC Social Worker

Phone:(757) 564-2371

James City County will hold an open house for individuals and families who wish to learn more about foster and adoptive parenting. The open house will be held Thursday, November 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Human Services Center, 5249 Olde Towne Road.

If you have ever wondered what you could do to help abused and neglected children or know someone who could be a positive influence in a child's life, this open house will provide information on the children served and the role of foster and adoptive families. In 2003, many of the approximately 50 children served by the County's foster care system were placed in foster homes outside the community due to the shortage of foster families.

Prospective foster and adoptive parents may attend pre-service training on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. on November 9, 16 and 30, December 7 and 14, and January 4, 11, 18 and 25. The training will be held at 4093 Ironbound Road, Suite A, behind the Williamsburg/James City County Courthouse.

For more information, contact Jessica Vermont at 564-2371 or or Gwen Mason to register for the training at 564-2376 or
