Chickahominy Haven residents seeking information and potential funds to help them prepare and safeguard against future flooding during a natural disaster should plan to attend a meeting about the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Wednesday, February 11, 7 p.m., James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Road. Residents will learn about options available for damage and flood mitigation assistance, such as housing elevation, available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The HMGP, administered by FEMA, provides grants to States and to local governments to implement long-term hazard mitigation measures after a major disaster declaration. The Program's purpose is to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters and to enable mitigation measures to be put into practice during the immediate recovery from a disaster.
