James City County Fire Department Plans Open House, Other Events

Come and meet your local firefighters at an open house at James City County Fire Station 4, 5312 Olde Towne Road, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and again later that evening at 6:30 p.m. prior to the showing of "Ladder 49" at Williamsburg Crossing Movies, 5251 John Tyler Highway,on Saturday, October 9.
Local firefighters will also be on hand at a fish fry from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station 1, 3135 Forge Road in Toano, to benefit the volunteer fire department and rescue squad. Tickets will be available at the door.
At Fire Stations 1 and 4, children will be able to use a 911 simulator and learn how and when to call 911 and sign up for Ident-a-Kid by the James City County Police Department. At Fire Station 4, there will also be free blood pressure checks by Sentara Community Hospital, free fire safety giveaways, and Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) members will be on hand to discuss this volunteer program to help neighborhoods during hurricanes and other emergencies.
Come early to visit with firefighters and receive a free fire safety flying disc while supplies last before purchasing your ticket to see the 7:15 p.m. showing of "Ladder 49."
These activities are held in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week October 3-9. The theme this year is "Test Your Smoke Alarms."
