McDonalds Restaurant in Lightfoot

Date: 4/20/04

The James City County Fire Department responded to a report of a building fire at the McDonalds Restaurant in Lightfoot on Monday, April 19 at 6:38 p.m. The first arriving units found a fire on the roof of the building near the drive thru window. The building was evacuated and the fire was extinguished within ten minutes of arrival. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Damage was confined to the roof of the building and can be described as moderate. The roof has a decorative built up portion on the sides that is covered with wood shingles. This was the portion that burned. The business was closed for the rest of the evening due to the fire and cleanup.

The cause of the fire was accidental. A lit cigarette was discarded onto the lower slope of the roof causing the fire according to the Fire Marshal completing the investigation of the fire.

Units from the James City Bruton Volunteer Fire Department, James City County Fire Department, York County Fire and Life Safety, and the Williamsburg Fire Department responded to the incident.
