James City County Hires a New Assistant Attorney

James City County has hired Kathryn M. Aston as the new Assistant County Attorney. She started her position here on October 11.
"Kathryn is a wonderful addition to our legal team," County Attorney Leo Rogers said. "She has extensive business and legal experience in construction, technology, public contracts, and environmental and land use regulations."
Aston most recently worked for Southern States Cooperative, Inc., where she provided legal assistance to its corporate real estate and construction division. She previously worked as an associate attorney for a Norfolk law firm where her practice focused on commercial and construction litigation and technology, public utility and environmental law.
Prior to attending law school, Aston served as Resident Manager of Environmental, Health, Safety and Security for Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. In this position, she served as a representative on Virginia Organized Industries for a Clean Environment, a member of the water use reduction task force for the Hampton Roads Water Efficiency Team, and as a board member for the York Chapter of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. She is an alumni of the Chamber of Commerce Historic Triangle Leadership Program.
Aston earned her J. D. from T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. She received a master's in business administration from the College of William and Mary and a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University.
Aston has 10 years of construction project experience in the areas of powerhouse utilities, high-speed packaging equipment, and facility improvements. She is licensed to prepare and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She holds Class 1 Water and Class 1 Wastewater Virginia Operator licenses.
She was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 2001 and the District of Columbia Bar in 2002. Aston is admitted to practice before all Virginia courts, the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U. S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
