The James City County Fire Department is accepting applications for the 2005 Citizens' Fire Academy

What is the Citizens' Fire Academy?
The Citizen' Fire Academy is a program designed by fire fighters to educate and introduce James City County residents to the numerous roles the fire department plays in their community.
What will I learn while attending the academy?
You will be introduced to all aspects of the fire department. You will receive information on all programs associated within the fire department: special teams, hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, fire suppression methods and numerous others. You will gain an inside look at what we accomplish, daily, in an effort to maintain and improve our community from a fire department standpoint.
Will I receive any certifications from this academy?
You will receive the American Heart Association Heart Saver Card (CPR). The academy is not designed to qualify you for any fire certifications.
What if I do not feel safe doing some of the training?
You will be required to do what ever you feel comfortable doing, even if that is simply observing. Safety is our main priority. If you are not comfortable or unable to perform a task, we support and respect your decision. We want you to be safe and have pleasant experience attending the academy.When and where is the Citizens' Fire Academy held?The Citizens' Fire Academy begins on September 7 (Wednesday following Labor Day) at 6:30 p.m. After the first class all classes will be on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Location will be Building 29 Eastern State Hospital. There are two Saturday practical during the academy. The academy runs through November 1. Graduation will be on the 3rd of November 2005.
