James City County, VA (May 5, 2005) James City County Division of Parks and Recreation in conjunction with Sentara Williamsburg Community Hospital and National EMS Week will present Family Fun Fest on May 21, 2005. This free event will be held rain or shine at Chickahominy Riverfront Park on John Tyler Highway from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Family Fun Fest is a family-focused outdoor event designed to entertain, inform, and educate people of all ages. Some of the activities planned include the Sentara Williamsburg Community Hospital health fair tent; hands on activities such as arts and crafts; information from the Historic Triangle Substance Abuse Coalition and Sentara Health Management; Touch-A-Truck; rides including a moonwalk, giant slide, and inflatable Twister game; Ident-a-Kid; and much more. Entertainment includes Zendiva, Lafayette High School Step Team, a DJ with Karaoke, and puppet shows. Stella the Superbug will be on hand to meet kids. There will also be a Therapeutic Recreation component with groups such as K-9 Connections, Dream Catchers Therapeutic Riding, and Williamsburg Master Gardeners along with a Disability Awareness Booth. These groups will be on hand to demonstrate their programs and to answer questions the community may have.
In addition, this year Family Fun Fest will include an EMS Week celebration. Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of the medical "front line." EMS Week is sponsored by the American College of Emergency Physicians. Organizational sponsors include The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Emergency Medical Services for Children program. There will be safety demonstrations, games, and a visit from the LIFE EVAC Rescue Helicopter.
James City County Parks and Recreation has been organizing Family Fun Fest since 1994. This year’s location, Chickahominy Riverfront Park, is the County’s newest and only riverfront park. Canoes, kayaks, and johnboats will be available during Family Fun Fest for rental.
