VDOT Worker Falls into James River

JAMES CITY COUNTY, VA -- James City County Fire Department responded to the report of a person in the water at the Jamestown ferry dock on January 27, 2005. Units arrived at 12:39 p.m. and found Robert Staff, age 62, of Portsmouth, out of the water on the ferry dock. He was treated for hypothermia and transported to Williamsburg Community Hospital. He is an employee of VDOT and had fallen into the water while working. Contact VDOT for additional details. Mr. Staff was assisted out of the water by two co-workers. He was wearing a personal floatation device or "life preserver" at the time. Units left the scene by 12:59.
