Residents of Chickahominy Haven as well as any other James City County residents, whose homes sustained major damage as a result of Hurricane Isabel, are encouraged to attend a May 16 meeting to discuss disaster recovery assistance.
The public meeting will be held at James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Road, next Monday at 6:30 p.m. The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development recently announced Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds have been allocated to assist in recovery efforts.
The County may request up to $700,000 to assist individuals whose homes sustained substantial, unreimbursed damages as a result of Hurricane Isabel in 2003. CDBG funds may be provided as a forgivable loan for housing rehabilitation, substantial reconstruction, hazard mitigation (including elevation) or relocation. The house must have sustained a 50 percent or greater loss in value as a result of the disaster. In addition, 50 percent of the households provided assistance must qualify as low or moderate income, according to HUD guidelines.
