James City County's Board of Supervisors recently honored Senior Firefighter Sharon W. Hamlin for her volunteer efforts working with the Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp.
Hamlin began visiting the Clarksville, Md., camp annually in 1993 and in 1999 was invited to become a camp counselor. She also helps program arts and crafts activities, participates in fund-raising activities and uses her emergency medical skills to provide first-aid to campers. The residential summer camp assists burn survivors ages 8 to 17 in their adjustment to injury by providing activities that support their physical, psychological and social needs.
"Sharon not only represents the James City County Fire Department and James City County at the Burn Camp but has also raised our community's awareness of the important services provided by the Camp," said Carol Schenk, the County's volunteer coordinator. "We are honored and privileged to have Sharon as an employee of James City County."
County Administrator Sandy Wanner was honored as the first quarter volunteer for his service with the Colonial Virginia Council of the Boy Scouts of America, United Way, Jamestown 4-H Center, Child Development Resources and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
