JAMES CITY COUNTY, VA -- James City County Fire Department responded on June 21 and 22 to several fires set by juveniles. On June 21 at 5:04 p.m., the Fire Department responded to several small brush fires located in the woods behind Williamsburg Crossing Shopping Center. The fires were quickly extinguished. Fire marshals and the Virginia Department of Forestry investigated. Juvenile petitions are pending for two seventeen year old suspects.
On June 22 at 3:09 p.m., James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a brush fire at the end of Maxton Lane. Upon arrival, units found an abandoned bus on fire along with a small brush fire. The fires were under control by 3:20. James City County Fire Marshals and the Virginia Department of Forestry investigated and determined the bus was set on fire. While on the scene, a second fire was reported at the railroad tracks and Croaker Road. Fire Marshals investigated the second reported fire and also located several mailboxes damaged in the Maxton Road area. James City County Police are investigating other related acts of vandalism in the same area. Juvenile petitions were obtained for one thirteen year old suspect; other petitions are pending for a fourteen year old.
