The Rural Lands Committee (RLC) held its second steering committee meeting on Wednesday, October 19, 2005. The RLC elected Jeff Barra as committee chair. Mr. Barra is a local architect, President of Toano Design, Inc, and is also a long-standing citizen volunteer who has served on both the Community Participation Team and Steering Committee during the past two Comprehensive Plan updates.
Renaissance Planning Group presented two scenarios for residential development, by-right and rural cluster, and examples of how different municipalities use these options to shape residential growth within their rural lands. RLC members were briefed on the basic structure and objectives of these scenarios and how James City County might use a mixture of development tools to direct rural residential development in ways consistent with both citizens' values and the Comprehensive Plan.
The RLC's first public workshop has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 17, 2005, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Toano Middle School. Interested citizens are encouraged to attend. Citizens can also follow the progress of the committee and offer comments through the Rural Lands link on the County's website at http://www.jccegov.com/.
