The Toano Community Character Area Study steering committee meeting previously scheduled for Friday, November 18 has been postponed until mid-December. The postponement will allow for the incorporation of the many ideas discussed during the most recent public workshop. The final design guidelines will be presented at the Planning Commission meeting on January 9 at 7 p.m. at the County Government Complex, 101-F Mounts Bay Road.
Approximately 40 citizens attended the second public workshop on Nov. 16. Consultants from the Renaissance Planning Group presented five overarching planning principles for the Toano area and displayed several parking, access and building scenarios for the Route 60 corridor stretching the length of the Community Character Area which was broken down into four identifiable zones; the Forge Road transition area, the Richmond Road Historic Area, the Chickahominy Road transition area, and Richmond Road between Norge and Toano. Citizens were asked to provide input regarding which scenarios seemed best suited to the character of Toano and were most practical given the current conditions of the area.
Citizens can follow the progress of the committee and view meeting materials through the Toano Study web site at:
