Citizens invited to help shape the future of James City County

Date: September 7, 2007

Looking for an opportunity to help shape the future of James City County?  The County is seeking community members of all ages and backgrounds to join the Community Participation Team (CPT) to assist with the latest update to the Comprehensive Plan.

The 10-member team, comprised of three members of the Planning Commission and seven County citizens, is extremely important to the 2008 update because it ensures that community feedback is heard and incorporated into the plan.  The Comprehensive Plan is the County’s master plan for guiding future growth, is used to evaluate development proposals, and is updated every 5 years.

The team will be involved in developing, encouraging, facilitating and reporting citizen participation throughout the planning process.  Team members will be expected to work closely with County staff to develop and coordinate publicity efforts and report on their results. The team will meet approximately once a week over part of the 22-month process beginning in late October.

All interested citizens should fill out an application for membership, which is available at or at the County Government Complex, 101 Mounts Bay Road, Building C.  The deadline for completed applications is Sept. 30.

Citizens also will have additional opportunities to offer input into the Comprehensive Plan process.  Keep reading the “FYI” newsletter and check the County Web site for updates and other chances to get involved.
