Little Rock, AK – November 7, 2007 – The Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC), the oldest and largest regional economic development association in North America, held its annual conference where the JCC Office of Economic Development won a Merit Award in the Literature and Promotion Competition, Medium Division category, for its 2006 Small Business Appreciation event.

The award-winning event was held in September 2006 to recognize small businesses in James City County.  It was a casual, tropical-themed cookout at the Kingsmill Marina, before being moved indoors due to inclement weather. Prizes were given to the oldest and youngest businesses in the County present at the event.

The annual SEDC conference is considered to be the culminating event for the association and is attended by hundreds of development professionals each year from eighteen states. This year’s event focused on bridging the gap between communities and economic development.
