An extensive pipe leak and old age have left the James City/Williamsburg Community Center whirlpool unrepairable, that according to County staff and equipment contractors who’ve spent several weeks trying to detect the leak and assessing the overall structure of the whirlpool. Seth Benton, Parks and Recreation’s Community Center Administrator says continued leaks in piping to the whirlpool as well as age - the 22 year old whirlpool was installed during the original center construction in 1986 – will require almost complete replacement of the existing whirlpool.
A contract proposal for replacement of the whirlpool is currently being advertised. Contractor bids are scheduled to be received until August 20. Once a contractor is hired, Benton says the County will have more specific information about the project completion date. “We do apologize for the delay in serving our customers, and we hope to have a new system online as quickly as possible, says Benton.”
Community Center patrons will receive regular email updates but can also stay informed of the whirlpool progress via the local newspapers, postings in the Community Center or by calling the Center at 259-4200.
