Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) announces that it will add four new bus stops in the Marquis Shopping Center to its Orange Line starting November 19.
The new stops will be added to the Orange Line schedule, which begins at the Williamsburg Transportation Center and serves the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center. Upon leaving the stop at Tam-O-Shanter Boulevard, Orange Line buses will enter the Marquis Shopping Center from the Route 199 entrance and serve stops in front of Target and Best Buy, then stop between Kohl’s Department Store and Dick’s Sporting Goods, and finally stop at the corner adjacent to J. C. Penny’s Department Store. The bus will then exit the Marquis onto Penniman Road and proceed to the stop at People’s Place. In order to accomplish this, the bus stop Government Road will be eliminated.
Jim Noel, York County's Director of Economic Development, was extremely pleased that WAT will be providing service to the Marquis. “Despite the recent drop in gas prices, public transportation for many retail workers is still a critical need. Additionally, the Marquis has excellent stores that will certainly benefit from the improved accessibility and exposure that the transit service will provide.”
The additional four stops will not affect the timing for other stops on the Orange Line schedule. The service increase is being implemented in response to customer interest.
