The James City County Planning Division and Community Participation Team (CPT) are excited to announce the official kick-off of the 2008 Comprehensive Plan update process. The Comprehensive Plan is the County’s master plan for guiding future growth. It is reviewed every 5 years and is used to evaluate development proposals and guide the decisions of County departments. It covers all aspects of the community, including economic development, population growth, public facilities, parks and recreation, and transportation. The Plan update is scheduled to follow a 22-month timeline with a final version ready for adoption by the Board of Supervisors in summer 2009.

In mid-November, the Board of Supervisors appointed the Community Participation Team a combination of citizens and Planning Commission members who will assist with County efforts in collecting and reporting citizen input on the future of the County. Members of the CPT are also available to present at group or neighborhood meetings. Contact the Planning Division at 253-6685 to schedule a date.

The County commissioned two surveys which were conducted last fall. The survey results will influence the types of questions asked and policies studied to plan for the future of the County. The results and raw data are available at, the official website for the Comprehensive Plan.

The next stage of public input begins in April. During a series of Community Conversations, citizens will have the opportunity to tell the County what issues are important to them. The Community Conversations will be held:

Stonehouse Elementary School

3651 Rochambeau Drive

Monday, April 14 11:30-1:30 p.m.
