Board of Supervisors appoint Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee

The James City County Board of Supervisors appointed 11 members to the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee to assist staff through the second half of Historic Past, Sustainable Future at the September 23 meeting.


The Steering Committee’s task is to blend citizen comments collected by the Community Participation Team (CPT) with staff’s research to develop policies and create the actual Plan.  The Steering Committee also reviews proposed changes to the Land Use map.  The Steering Committee will recommend revisions of the Comprehensive Plan to the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors for adoption in summer 2009.

The Steering Committee will meet weekly on Mondays at 4 p.m. at the County Government Complex, 101 Mounts Bay Road, in the Building F Worksession and Board Rooms, unless otherwise noted.  The October schedule is as follows:


Mon. 06           Welcome & Introduction
Tues. 14           Transportation-Building the Model/Training        3-5 p.m.              
Mon. 20           Demographics
Mon. 27           Population Needs

Meetings will be televised live on JCC TV48 and rebroadcast Wednesdays on Community Channel 46 at 8 a.m., 2 p.m., and 8 p.m. or on-demand on  


The Comprehensive Plan is the County’s master plan for guiding future growth.  Reviewed every 5 years, it is used to evaluate development proposals and guide the decisions of County departments.  It covers all aspects of the community, including economic development, population growth, public facilities, parks and recreation, and transportation. The process to update the County’s 2003 Comprehensive Plan began in November 2007.
