“Do a good turn daily” is one of several Boy Scout mottos. Patrick Corbett, Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 102, took the slogan to heart as he completed his Eagle Scout Project at Anniversary Park, the former Jamestown Campground. His project: refurbish picnic tables.
Mr. Corbett recruited forty-two volunteers that included his troop and many parents. They gave some 158 hours of their time and energy to help complete his project in late September and early October, where they sorted through more than 200 picnic tables at the old campground and separated them into piles – the good, the can be fixed, and the cannot be fixed. From there, they refurbished 106 tables--adding new life to provide County Park visitors opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. The tables will be distributed to other County Parks.
And the County saved money too. Alex Holloway, Park Operations Coordinator, said this project, valued at more than $4,800 in labor costs alone, saved the County maintenance and future costs in purchasing new picnic tables and cleaning up the site. This was definitely a win-win for the County and Mr. Corbett, who is working his way to the final ranking of Eagle Scout.
