Special/Family Events

Paddling Day Trip (all ages and abilities!)
Saturday, October 3, 9am-noon
$15; $10 for JC/W residents
Little Creek Reservoir Park
Trip includes a short instructional program followed by a leisurely canoe/kayak ride around Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Canoes, kayaks, paddles and life

Harvest Festival featuring the Haunted Forest and Scarecrow Stuffing!
Saturday, October 17, 2-8pm, $3/car parking fee

Chickahominy Riverfront Park
Come to the Harvest Festival for live music, DJ and entertainment, rides, art and craft vendors, a Farmer’s Market, fall food favorites and more! Begin the afternoon by making the biggest, the best, and maybe the only scarecrow in your neighborhood. Stuff ‘em, paint ‘em, name ‘em, and take ‘em home! Make this a family activity and create a scarecrow together. Stay for the Haunted Forest if you dare to venture out after dark and experience the journey for the fun, for the fright, for the things that go bump in the night! Children 6 and younger, along with their parents, will especially enjoy Goblinville with its moonwalks and a pumpkin patch hayride traveling through a maze of pumpkin faces and Nursery Rhyme Characters. Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex
Food, music, friends, spooky activities and fall fun all wrapped up in one night to remember! You and your friends will have fun on the dance floor, in the Great Ghost-capade trying to be the first to find the ghost, acting silly on the “scare”aoke stage, or pretending you’re not terrified by the haunted storyteller. The Great Park Pursuit (all ages)
$15; $10 for JC/W residents
Come discover your County parks by participating in the Great Park Pursuit, a self-
guided tour where you’ll be challenged to visit at least County nine parks before September 2010. The registration fee includes a T-shirt, activity log and water bottle. Quarterly drawings include an annual drawing with prize packages featuring outdoor sporting goods and equipment. Children’s Creative Dance (ages 3-5)
Thursday, October 22 – November 19, 1-2pm

Children will be introduced to the field of dance through movement, rhythm and simple routines. Students should wear appropriate dance attire - tights, leotard and ballet slippers. Min.5, max. 12 students. #31050-A.

Rec Connect – Before/After School Programs
Registration forms, program information and fees are available for download at or call the Rec Connect Info Line at 259-3170. The program runs through the last day of class for Williamsburg-James City County public schools. The Before/After program is offered at all elementary schools, Monday-Friday, 7am until school starts and from school dismissal until 6pm.  An After-School program only is offered at Berkeley and Toano Middle Schools. James Blair students are transported to Berkeley. $30 initial registration fee for James City/Williamsburg residents. Discounts of 15-75% are available to any qualified resident based on total income. For more information on financial aid, please call 259-5416.


English Country Dancing for Children (ages 6-18)

If you love the Colonial and Regency lifestyle, then this is the class for you! Students will learn the basic steps, patterns and routines of social line dancing, while listening to

Campus Tour Series (grades 9-12)

Join us for part four, a visit to Old Dominion University. We’ll travel to historic Norfolk to see this 188-acre campus that stretches from the Elizabeth to the Lafayette River. Explore academic buildings and other student facilities while discovering the uniqueness of the university. Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Inclusion/Specialized Therapeutic Recreation

Buddy Art (ages 6 and older with special needs)

Offered in partnership with This Century Art Gallery, thismultimedia workshop provides participants with one-on-one Buddies. The Buddies, volunteers from the College of William & Mary’s Sharpe Community Scholars Program, provide individualized attention and assistance. Additional sessions are scheduled in November. Teensational Socials (ages 12-22 with physical, emotional or cognitive disabilities)

The socials are an opportunity for youth to practice social skills, meet new people, learn new skills and have a great time! Sessions held monthly. Each session includes a craft, new activity and a snack. Trained and experienced staff will work on communication,

Adult Arts

Jewelry-Making Classes (ages 16+)
$20; $15/session for JC/W residents
James City/Williamsburg Community Center
You’ll learn the tips and tricks of design while you craft your very own beaded jewelry. Quality beads, pearls, clasps and materials provided. Leave with a finished piece the same day of class. Participants can sign up for a variety of classes on the following topics of beaded necklaces, beaded bracelets, making earrings, charm bracelets, repair and recycling of jewelry, and making a rosary. Bellydance II (ages 13+)

Photography 101 (ages 17+)

Class topics will include focus, composition, lighting, portraits, nature, travel, products, real estate, and night photography. Each student will be given assignments to be reviewed and critiqued in the next class. You’ll see improvements right away! R.A.D. Basic Physical Defense
Tuesday/Thursday, October 20, 22, 27 & 29, 6:30-8:30pm

Could you effectively defend yourself if attacked? The R.A.D. system is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics & techniques. A comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing to the basics of hands-on defense training. This is not a martial arts program. Each 12-hour course includes a manual, hands-on training, and instruction by R.A.D. certified JCC Police Officers. Max 12. Learn To Swim Programs
Open registration will be held October 26 – November 15.  After you have successfully passed a class, you can register for the next level during this two-week open registration period. If you’re unsure of your or your child’s swimming needs or level, FREE swim evaluations will be held at the JCWCC, 4:30-6:30pm, on Tuesday, November 3 and Wednesday, November 11. 259-4185.


Adult Group Fitness Classes (ages 13+). Get in shape or stay in shape with a wide variety of land-and-water-based classes. Over 140 classes offered! Professional instruction!
