Need to get away, but you can’t think of a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors? Well look no further than James City County Parks & Recreation! You can spend a day picnicking in one of many parks, camping on the beautiful Chickahominy River, relaxing at the waterfront at Jamestown Beach Park or taking a dip in one of our pools at Chickahominy Riverfront Park or Upper County Park. And if you’re looking for adventure, take a break from the treadmill or exercise bike and enjoy a stroll along several multi-use trails and mountain bike trails.
Summer is the time to get outdoors and enjoy the weather! You can get plenty of exercise and fresh air while taking in the beautiful, scenic views on trail systems that wind through historic sites, forests and wetlands, and along creeks and beaver ponds. You may also enjoy 140 acres of the beautiful Chickahominy Riverfront Park nestled on the Chickahominy River and Gordon’s Creek. This island-like getaway provides visitors many types of camping opportunities - whether you enjoy tent camping or RVing, you will find a comfortable spot where you can take in nature and bask in the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Other recreation activities include fishing and boating, hitting golf balls on the driving range and playing horseshoes. You can even enjoy the swimming or simply watch while the children laugh and play on the playgrounds
