Family Events
The Great Park Pursuit (all ages)
Come discover your County parks by participating in the Great Park Pursuit, a self-
guided tour where you’ll be challenged to visit at least nine parks. The registration fee includes a T-shirt, activity log and water bottle as well as quarterly and annual drawings!
$15; $10 for JC/W residents

Rec Connect – Summer Camp & Before/After School Programs

Preschool Little Tykes Camp (ages 3-5)
Play stations, crafts, interactive stories and songs add up to a fun week of adventure. Activities include weekly swimming and visits from the library reading program and bookmobile. Children must be potty-trained.
Monday – Thursday, through August 13, 8:30-11:30am

Youth Imagine Tomorrow Computer Camp

Become a computer detective on a learning adventure to imaginative places such as the E-mail Trail or Internet Island! Help prepare your child with the skills they’ll need for the future!
Ages 3-5: Monday-Thursday, August 24-27, 9am–noon
Ages 6-7: Monday-Thursday, August 24-27, 1-4pm

Natural Artist (ages 6-10)
Explore your creativity by using various natural materials to create a sculpture and collage! Your child will create arts and crafts using the natural products found in your backyard.

Camp-Out Camp (ages 6-10)
Outdoor cooking, hiking trails, tent set-up, orienteering, and canoe safety skills are a few fundamentals of this camp.

Camp H20 (ages 9-11)
Campers will explore water safety, boat safety, swimming, canoeing and fishing. The program will conclude with a trip to Water Country USA for a day of fun. Participants must pass the JCWCC swim test to take part in this program.

Adventure Nuts (ages 10-14)
Come explore many of the exciting outdoor adventures available in your County parks. We’ll canoe and kayak down the Chickahominy, hike the trails of Freedom Park, spend a day fishing at Little Creek, and then complete the class by testing our limits on a low ropes course.

Culinary Creations Camp (ages 12-17)

Trailblazin’ Kids Camp (ages 9-14)
Explore JCC’s parks and have fun hiking, biking and swimming. Transportation provided.

Run4Fun Camp (all levels, ages 11+)
Run on trails and roads, cross-train with core and strength workouts, participate in speed and hill training. Rain or shine!

Teens
Campus Tour Series (grades 9-12)
Join us for a visit to Longwood University. Hear a presentation, visit academic buildings and learn about college life. Fee includes transportation and lunch.

Car Care 101 (grades 9-12)
This hands-on workshop will teach you the basics of car maintenance including checking fluids, fixing a flat and even changing the oil.

KIDS Fencing Camp (ages 6-8)
New students will learn the basics of fencing including proper movement, attacking and defending and using a safety (foam) sword. Activities will include paired drills and fencing against the instructor and assistants as well as games to improve agility and eye-hand coordination. All equipment provided.

The Bob Artis Tennis Camp (ages 7-14)
Participants will be grouped according to ability to focus on instruction of serve, volley, stance, rules, sportsmanship and teamwork.

Junior Golf Camp (ages 8-14)
Expert instruction on the fundamentals of golf including the rules, course etiquette, stance, chipping, putting and driving. Clubs provided.

The Ivan Thomas Humble Stars Basketball Camp (ages 9-13)
Hit the hardwood with Ivan Thomas, one of Virginia’s premier basketball instructors. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals including stance, ball handling, shooting, defense, sportsmanship and teamwork.

Beginner Fencing Camp (ages 9 to 13)

Adults – Special Interests  
Just Wanna Dance (Intro to Dance)
Check out this exciting new way to get down with Hip-Hop, Latin, pop and club style
dancing!  A great cardio exercise that’s more fun in a non-conventional,

unstructured style. No experience required.

Fitness


Adult Group Fitness Classes (ages 13+). Professional instruction in a wide variety of classes offered at a variety of levels in aerobics, cardiovascular training and for weight loss. Water Fitness Classes (all ages & swimming abilities). Classes range from water walking to water cardio and are taught by nationally certified water fitness instructors. 259-4185.
