County announces launch of Ordinance update website

July 1, 2010

Contact:  Tamara Rosario, Principal Planner

Phone: (757) 253-6685

The James City County Planning Division has launched the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance update process website.  Visit this website to follow the update process and timeline, learn how to participate, and get answers to your frequently asked questions.

The Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances outline what uses can occur on specific properties, detail procedures for reviewing development applications, and include details about particular design requirements for building spacing, sidewalk placement, cell towers, layouts for new subdivision lots, landscaping, and more.  Many of the priority actions from the 2009 Comprehensive Plan will be addressed during the update process in order to put the community’s vision for the County’s future in practice and on the ground.  While small changes to the ordinances are frequently processed, the County generally conducts a more complete review and update of the entire ordinances after a new County comprehensive plan is adopted.

For additional information, please visit the official ordinance update website at or call the hotline at (757) 259-4990.
