The Economic Development Authority (EDA) of James City County is pleased to announce a business assistance program that will offer a variety of services to qualified businesses.
Under the new program, the EDA will offer assistance through an assortment of offerings from small grants and loans to guidance with business planning or assistance with understanding processes and zoning in the County. The EDA does not guarantee assistance to every business that submits an application and will evaluate each on a case-by-case basis. The grants and loans portion of the program is subject to the availability of EDA budgeted funds.
The primary purpose of the James City County Business Assistance Program is to assist with the retention, expansion, relocation and development of smaller businesses in James City County. As an economic development tool for the County, the intent of the Business Assistance Program is to create and retain quality employment opportunities, retain and expand the tax base, and thereby retain and grow those preferred smaller businesses which possess the qualities and attributes set forth in the 2008 Business Climate Task Force report. EDA Vice Chairman Douglas Gebhardt led the development efforts of the program.
“Business assistance offerings are intended for specific projects that will expand, upgrade, or relocate fiscally sound existing smaller businesses within the County”, said EDA Chair, Tom Tingle. New start-up businesses may also be considered for business assistance targeted to a specific purpose. Start-up businesses are also encouraged to contact the Office of Economic Development for information on additional programs specifically oriented toward new businesses.
The EDA will initially fund the Business Assistance Program with administrative fees earned by the EDA through its revenue bond financing program. For more information about the business assistance program, please contact the Economic Development Authority of James City County at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (757) 253-6607.
