Freedom Park reopened today after five acres were involved in a brush fire on Friday. County Fire and Park officials worked with the Virginia Department of Forestry to create a containment line to prevent further damage to the rest of the Park. Officials continue to monitor the Park for any signs of new fires.

Residents near Freedom Park and the surrounding area may notice smoke that is expected to remain for up to several weeks. Freedom Park visitors should stay away from the containment line surrounding the burned section.

For more information, call John Carnifax, Director of Parks and Recreation at (757) 259-5361.
