The James City Service Authority (JCSA) is issuing reminders to customers regarding the annual inspection requirement for backflow prevention assemblies. The notification reminds customers to have their backflow assemblies inspected and tested by their annual test date. All commercial and residential properties that have a backflow prevention assembly must ensure that the assembly is operating as designed through an annual inspection by a Commonwealth of Virginia certified backflow tester.
Backflow prevention assemblies are required to prevent the back siphoning of contaminated water into our community’s water supply. Commercial uses include a variety of applications. Residential uses most commonly include lawn sprinkler and irrigation systems that are exposed to substances such as fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemical or biological contaminants.
The James City Service Authority’s (JCSA) goal is to provide safe drinking water to all of our customers. To accomplish this, the JCSA administers a Backflow Prevention Program mandated by the Virginia Department of Health to identify and eliminate cross connections to our community water supply. For more information about JCSA’s Backflow Prevention & Cross Connection Control Program, visit www.jccEgov.com/jcsa or call (757) 259-4138.
