May 5, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Fran Geissler, Stormwater Director
A public meeting on the draft Implementation Plan to address fecal bacteria issues in the Mill and Powhatan Creek Watersheds will be held Thursday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the James City/Williamsburg Community Center, 5301 Longhill Road. The meeting is hosted by James City County, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission.
Water quality monitoring shows that bacteria levels in Mill and Powhatan Creeks violate Virginia’s water quality standards. The Implementation Plan will identify ways to reduce the pollutants as outlined in the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) study. The TMDL study was approved by EPA in 2008 and is available on DEQ’s website: http://www.deq.virginia.gov.
The draft Implementation Plan will be available for review on the County’s website no later than May 10, 2010: www.jamescitycountyva.gov/stormwater/watershedmanagement.
Comments on the draft Implementation Plan will be accepted through June 14, 2010. In addition to comments made at the public meeting, comments may be made in writing to Jennifer Howell or Jennifer Tribo. All written comments must include the submitter’s name, address, and telephone number.
