The James City County Police Department will offer two free firearm safety classes to the public on March 27 and April 17. The classes cover basic firearm safety, handling and storage.

The classes will meet at the Law Enforcement Center at 5087 John Tyler Highway from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. The classes do not include hands-on training and personal firearms should be left at home in a secure location.

Pre-registration is required and class size is limited. Call the James City County Police Department at 253-1800 to register.

Grant funding received from the National Rifle Association Foundation and Project ChildSafe was used to purchase class materials and gunlocks.  Free gunlocks are available at the class or by calling Sergeant Steve Humphries at 253-2481.
