James City County was recognized with a 2010 Outstanding Achievement in Local Government Innovation Award on June 3 by The Alliance for Innovation (link to http://transformgov.org/en/home/) at its annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The award was given for CaseTrak 2.0: Opening Development Tracking to Citizens and Applicants 24/7. CaseTrak 2.0 was a partnership between the County’s Planning and Information Technology divisions and has been available to the public online at www.jamescitycountyva.gov/casetrak since 2007. CaseTrak allows citizens and developers to check on the status of development proposals, learn about projects close to their house or favorite landmarks, view comment letters from County agencies online in real time, and find out about upcoming public hearing dates. Since its release, CaseTrak has increased efficiency and transparency in the development review process.
CaseTrak 2.0 was selected from more than 60 nominations by localities across the United States. Innovation awards are given to those local governments that have shown their dedication to stretching and improving the boundaries of day-to-day government operations and practices, implementing creative business processes, and improving the civic health of the community.
