The James City County Planning Division announces the official kick-off of the Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance update process. The Zoning Ordinance is the legal document that defines the appropriate uses for properties throughout the County. The Subdivision Ordinance is the set of regulations that establishes how new lots can be created. The Planning Division is undertaking the ordinance update in order to implement and put into practice many of the concepts expressed in the recently adopted 2009 Comprehensive Plan. The update is scheduled to follow a 20-month timeline with new ordinances ready for consideration in late 2011 or early 2012.
The ordinance update process will begin with a joint work session of the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors on August 10 at 4 p.m. There will be no opportunities for public comment at the work session; however, two Planning Commission Forums will be held after the work session to collect citizen, business, and community group ideas regarding the ordinances:
|Tuesday, August 24||
| Commercial and Mixed Use Districts
Procedural, Submittal, and Administrative Items
Wednesday, September 1
Rural Lands Districts
Both the work session and the forums will be held in Building F of the James City County Government Center, 101 Mounts Bay Road.
Community members are encouraged to attend the forums; speaking slots for the forums will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis. See www.jccplans.org for participant applications, information about the ordinance update and topics, or to submit written comment. Application deadline is August 16. Call JCC Planning at 253-6685 for additional information.
