Ironbound Road Widening Project Community Information Briefing November 30
Project and county representatives will be available to answer questions.
JAMES CITY COUNTY — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin construction on the Ironbound Road Widening Project, Phase I, this month. Citizens are invited to a community briefing where project and county representatives will be on-hand to share construction and traffic details associated with the project.
The community information briefing will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at James City/Williamsburg Community Center, 5301 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23188.
The Ironbound Road Improvement Project will increase vehicle capacity and provide pedestrian and bicyclist facilities between Strawberry Plains Road and Longhill Connector Road. The project is designed to provide four vehicle travel lanes, intersection improvements in the project area and a shared-use recreational path.
Construction will be phased allowing contractors to complete as much work as possible outside of the existing roadway before shifting traffic to the new travel lanes. Construction will necessitate occasional short-term lane closures at the intersections along the construction route.
The project will cost approximately $16 million and is schedule to be complete in winter 2012.
